We will drive passed the oldest building in South Africa (the Castle of Good Hope), and begin our tour near the Company Gardens.
A brief pause by the statue of Jan Smuts, who was Prime Minister twice, and involved in the Anglo-Boer War and both World Wars I and II. In addition we are standing within a hundred metres where three of our Nobel Peace prize winners worked.
A stroll along side Parliament and down through the Company Gardens where the Dutch East India Company planted the first fruit, vegetables and vineyards. On route we will see the Tynhuis, National Art gallery and the South African museum.
An important statue in the Company Gardens is of Cecil John Rhodes and we will find out about his contribution to history, diamonds and politics.

A visit to St George’s Cathedral (Archbishop Desmond Tutu 1986-1996) to find out the significance of this cathedral and the magnificent stained glass windows are not to be missed.

On route to the African market (Greenmarket square) we will pause by the piece of the Berlin Wall and discuss the significance of the end of the Cold War and the impact on the end of apartheid.

From here we will stroll to the Bo Kaap, the cultural heritage Islamic area, where all the houses are painted bright colours and enjoy a Cape Malay cooking lesson with one of the local ladies in their home. We will make chicken curry, samoosas, roti and other tasty treats. We will enjoy the feast we have prepared with our host and over lunch she will provide an insight in to the history of Cape Muslims

A World heritage site, Kirstenbosch botanical gardens is a must-see for garden lovers. We can make a tour of the garden on foot or enjoy the one hour tour by golf cart.

Or we can head out to the Constantia wine region. This is the closest wine region to Cape Town, a cooler climate and known for their Sauvignon Blancs.
