Built for defense during the middle of the 17th century, the Castle of Good Hope is the oldest surviving building in South Africa. Within its wall there are an abundance of historical stories including about our First Nations (Khoi and San), the Dutch East India Company along with the military history of resistance wars. We will walk in the steps of the soldiers, slaves and employees of the Dutch East India Company, and get a good understanding of life in Cape Town during the 17th century.
