Company Gardens

Company Gardens

Around 60-90 minutes

The first cultivated garden in South Africa; a fusion of magnificent trees, landscaped gardens, and memorial art, all surrounded by several historical buildings. The tour covers three and a half centuries of social history, with a range of stories including our First Nations (Khoi and San) and the Dutch East India Company leading up to present day.

Afterwards you can enjoy light refreshments at one of the restaurants.

Points of Interest:
  • The Saffron Pear tree (thought to be the oldest tree in the garden)
  • Parliament buildings
  • War memorials
  • A champion tree (rubber tree)
  • Cultivated vegetable and herb garden (bringing back the heritage of the original garden)
  • Statues to Jan Smuts, Sir George Grey and Cecil Rhodes
  • The Arch for the Arch
